Ingredients

1 sheet of frozen puff pastry (thawed)

1 medium apple (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), cored and thinly sliced

4 oz Brie cheese, sliced (rind removed)

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 egg (for egg wash)

1 tbsp water

Optional: chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch

Optional: honey for drizzling

Instructions

Prep the Oven and Puff Pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry and roll it gently into a rectangle measuring about 12x9 inches.

Slice and Prepare the Apples: In a mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss the mixture until the apples are evenly coated, then let it sit for a few minutes to soak up the flavors.

Create the Puff Pastry Design: Cut the puff pastry into 3 equal sections lengthwise, leaving about 3 inches of space in the center for the filling. On either side of the center strip, make diagonal cuts (1-inch apart) along the edges of the pastry.

Layer the Filling: In the center of the pastry, layer the sliced Brie cheese followed by the spiced apple mixture. If you’re using nuts, sprinkle them over the apples.

Braid the Pastry: Starting from the top, fold the top edge of the pastry over the cheese and apples. Next, take one of the diagonal strips from one side and fold it over the filling to the center. Do the same with the diagonal strip from the opposite side, alternating until you reach the end of the braid. Tuck in the ends to seal.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg with the water. Brush the egg wash over the top of the braided pastry to give it a beautiful golden color when baked.

Bake to Perfection: Place the braided pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

Serve and Enjoy: Once out of the oven, let it cool slightly. Drizzle with honey if desired and slice to serve. Enjoy your warm Apple Brie Puff Pastry Braids!
