Ingredients

4 whole wheat pita breads

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons sugar (brown sugar preferred for extra flavor)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 apple (preferably a tart variety like Granny Smith), cored and thinly sliced

Optional: 1 tablespoon honey for drizzling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Pita: Cut each pita bread into 8 wedges (like a pizza) to create chips.

Mix the Coating: In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined. The mixture should be smooth and slightly thick.

Coat the Pita Wedges: Brush or toss the pita wedges in the bowl with the cinnamon mixture until they are thoroughly coated.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the coated pita wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they are not overlapping to allow for even crispiness.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.

Add Apple Slices: In the last 2-3 minutes of baking, sprinkle the thin apple slices on top of the chips. This will help to warm and slightly caramelize the apples.

Optional Drizzle: Once baked, remove the chips from the oven and drizzle them with honey for an extra touch of sweetness if desired.

Cool and Serve: Allow the apple cinnamon baked pita chips to cool for a few minutes before serving. They're perfect as a warm snack on their own or paired with yogurt or a dip!
