Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup milk (or non-dairy alternative)

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 medium apple, peeled and finely chopped (preferably a tart apple like Granny Smith)

Extra cinnamon and sugar for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with non-stick spray or use a silicone pan to prevent sticking.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix together the applesauce, milk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the chopped apple until evenly dispersed in the batter.

Fill the Donut Pan: Using a piping bag or a spoon, fill each cavity of the donut pan roughly 2/3 full with the batter.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the donuts comes out clean.

Cool: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Add Topping (optional): For an extra sweet touch, mix together some cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. While the donuts are still warm, lightly brush them with melted butter and then roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Serve: Enjoy your warm Apple Cinnamon Donuts fresh, or store them in an airtight container for up to 2 days. These donuts pair perfectly with a cup of coffee or tea!
