Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 for a juicy burger)

1 large onion, thinly sliced

4 slices Swiss cheese

4 hamburger buns (preferably brioche or toasted)

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp unsalted butter

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Optional toppings: arugula, pickles, ketchup, or mustard

Instructions

Caramelize the Onions:

    - In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat.

      - Add the thinly sliced onions and stir occasionally.

        - Cook for about 15-20 minutes, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized.

          - Season with a pinch of salt to help draw out moisture. Set aside.

            Prepare the Burger Patties:

              - In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

                - Gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

                  - Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about ¾ inch thick.

                    Cook the Burgers:

                      - In a clean skillet or grill pan, heat the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat.

                        - Once hot, add the burger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, until a nice crust forms.

                          - Flip the patties and place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each burger. Continue cooking for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium doneness, adjusting cooking time based on desired doneness.

                            Toast the Buns:

                              - While the burgers are cooking, you can toast the hamburger buns. Place them cut-side down in a separate hot skillet for about 2 minutes or until golden brown.

                                Assemble the Burgers:

                                  - On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a cooked burger patty with melted Swiss cheese.

                                    - Top generously with the caramelized onions.

                                      - Add any additional toppings you desire, such as fresh arugula, pickles, ketchup, or mustard.

                                        - Place the top half of the bun on top, gently press down, and serve immediately.
