2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans work great!)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

      Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with both sugars (granulated and brown) until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

        Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until combined.

          Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients. Mix just until incorporated; do not over-mix.

            Fold in Chocolate Chips & Nuts: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and, if using, the chopped nuts until evenly distributed in the batter.

              Spread in Pan: Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan using a spatula. Smooth the top for a uniform finish.

                Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

                  Cool and Cut: Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes. Then, lift them out using the parchment (if used), and cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares or rectangles.
