8 oz (225g) pasta (fettuccine or penne recommended)

2 tablespoons olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

½ cup heavy cream

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for serving)

1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (for added depth)

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve ½ cup of pasta water, then drain and set aside.

    Sauté Aromatics: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
