Ingredients

8 oz linguine or spaghetti

1 lb ground beef

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium onion, chopped

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, with juice

1 cup beef broth

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Salt and black pepper to taste

2 tbsp olive oil

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)

Instructions

Cook the pasta: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the linguine or spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving about 1/2 cup of the pasta water for later use.

Cook the beef: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Brown the meat: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

Add tomatoes and broth: Stir in the diced tomatoes (with juice), beef broth, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Combine pasta and sauce: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat the noodles in the sauce. If the sauce seems too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh parsley. Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese on top.
