Ingredients

1 lb beef steak (ribeye or sirloin, thinly sliced)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced

1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

4 hoagie rolls

4 slices provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz for a traditional twist)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Optional toppings: hot peppers, mayonnaise

Instructions

Prepare the Beef: If the steak is not pre-sliced, partially freeze it for about an hour, then slice it thinly against the grain. Set aside.

Cook the Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until they start to soften, about 3 minutes. Add the green bell peppers and mushrooms (if using). Sauté until the veggies are tender, approximately 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside.

Cook the Steak: In the same skillet, increase the heat to medium-high. Add the thinly sliced steak to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and pour in the Worcestershire sauce. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the steak is browned and cooked to your liking.

Combine: Return the cooked vegetables back into the skillet with the steak. Mix everything together and heat for an additional minute, making sure all components are well combined.

Melt the Cheese: Split the hoagie rolls and place them open-faced on a baking sheet. Place an equal amount of the steak and vegetable mixture onto each roll. Top each with a slice of provolone cheese. Broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven and add any optional toppings as desired (such as hot peppers or mayonnaise). Serve immediately while hot.
