Ingredients

6 medium-sized tart apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

¼ teaspoon salt

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Apples: In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with lemon juice, ensuring they're well coated. This will prevent browning and add a zesty flavor.

Make the Crisp Topping: In another bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, melted butter, and chopped nuts (if using). Stir until the mixture is crumbly and well combined.

Assemble the Dish: In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spread the apple mixture evenly on the bottom. Then, sprinkle the oat topping generously over the apples, covering them completely.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30–35 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Let the baked apple crisp cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
