Tuna steak refers to thick cuts taken from larger species of tuna, such as yellowfin, bluefin, or albacore. Among these, yellowfin tuna is commonly used for its firm texture and mild flavor, while bluefin is often considered a delicacy due to its rich taste and high-fat content. Albacore, on the other hand, has a lighter flavor and is frequently found in canned products but can also be grilled to perfection when fresh.

Ingredients

For the Grilled Tuna Steak:

2 fresh tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Zest of 1 lemon

1 teaspoon dried oregano

For the Garlic Aioli:

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

1 tablespoon olive oil

Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Tuna Steaks:

In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, salt, black pepper, lemon zest, and dried oregano. Rub this mixture evenly over the tuna steaks and set aside for about 20 minutes to let the flavors marinate.

      Make the Garlic Aioli:

In another bowl, combine the mayonnaise, minced garlic, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard. Stir well until the ingredients are fully blended. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Gradually drizzle in the olive oil while whisking to create a smooth aioli. Refrigerate until you're ready to serve.

          Grill the Tuna Steak:

Preheat your grill (or grill pan) over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the tuna steaks on the grill and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer them well-done. Tuna cooks quickly, so keep an eye on it to prevent overcooking.

              Serve:

Once the tuna steaks are nicely seared and cooked to your desired doneness, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a minute. Drizzle or dollop the garlic aioli over the tuna steaks. Sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of color and flavor.

                  Enjoy:

Serve the Garlic Aioli Tuna Steak immediately with lemon wedges on the side and your choice of sides, such as roasted vegetables or a fresh salad.
