To achieve perfectly cooked grilled turkey burgers, start by shaping your patties. Take the ground turkey mixture and divide it into equal portions, typically around 4 to 6 ounces each, depending on your desired size. Roll each portion into a ball and then gently flatten it into a patty. Aim for about ¾ inch thickness.

Ingredients

For the Turkey Burgers:

1 lb ground turkey

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon olive oil (for grilling)

For the Peach Salsa:

2 ripe peaches, diced

1/2 red bell pepper, finely chopped

1/4 red onion, finely chopped

1 jalapeño, seeded and minced (adjust for heat preference)

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon lime juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional for garnish)

For Serving:

Whole grain burger buns

Lettuce leaves

Sliced avocado (optional)

Extra lime wedges (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Salsa: In a medium bowl, combine the diced peaches, red bell pepper, red onion, and jalapeño. Add the honey and lime juice, and season with salt and pepper. Toss gently to combine. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.

Make the Turkey Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined; avoid overmixing to keep the patties from being tough.

Shape the Patties: Divide the turkey mixture into four equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Create a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent them from puffing up while grilling.

Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F/200°C) and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.

Grill the Burgers: Place the turkey patties on the grill and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Avoid pressing down on the patties while cooking to keep them juicy.

Toast the Buns (Optional): If desired, during the last few minutes of cooking, place the burger buns cut-side down on the grill until lightly toasted.

Assemble the Burgers: Place cooked turkey patties on the toasted buns, topped with lettuce and a generous scoop of peach salsa. Add sliced avocado if using, and top with the other half of the bun.

Serve: Garnish with lime wedges and fresh cilantro if desired. Enjoy with a side of sweet potato fries or a fresh salad!
