For the Sloppy Joes:

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 small bell pepper, finely chopped (red or green)

1 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

4 whole wheat hamburger buns

Optional toppings: shredded cheese, pickles, or coleslaw

For the Sweet Potato Fries:

2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into thin fries

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Sweet Potato Fries:

    - Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

      - In a large bowl, toss the sweet potato fries with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, and salt until evenly coated.

        - Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

          - Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

            Cook the Sloppy Joe Mixture:

              - In a large skillet, heat over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and bell peppers, sautéing until soft (about 3-4 minutes).

                - Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.

                  Add the Sauce:

                    - Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.

                      - Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

                        Assemble the Sloppy Joes:

                          - Toast the hamburger buns lightly if desired.

                            - Spoon a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun. Add any optional toppings if using, then place the top half of the bun over it.

                              Serve:

                                - Plate the Sloppy Joes alongside the crispy sweet potato fries. Enjoy your kid-friendly meal!
