Ingredients

1 lb breakfast sausage (bulk or links, casing removed)

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups whole milk

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for a kick)

1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough or 2 cups homemade biscuit dough

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Prepare the Sausage Gravy:

      - In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

        - Stir in the flour and cook for another minute, allowing it to coat the sausage evenly.

          - Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue cooking and stirring until the mixture thickens, about 5-8 minutes.

            - Season with garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper, if desired. Remove from heat and set aside.

              Make the Biscuit Nests:

                - On a floured surface, roll out each biscuit until it’s about 1/4 inch thick. Use a round cutter (about 3 inches in diameter) to cut out circles from the dough.

                  - Place the circles into a greased muffin tin or mini tart pan, gently pressing them into the bottom and along the sides to create a nest shape.

                    Assemble the Nests:

                      - Pre-bake the biscuit nests in the preheated oven for about 7 minutes, just until they start to lightly brown.

                        - Carefully remove the nests from the oven and fill each one with a generous spoonful of the sausage gravy. If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.

                          Final Bake:

                            - Return the filled biscuit nests to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

                              Garnish and Serve:

                                - Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy warm!
