Ingredients

For the Shrimp:

1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

For the Grits:

1 cup stone-ground grits

4 cups water or chicken broth

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1/4 cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Grits:

    - In a large saucepan, bring the water or chicken broth to a boil. Slowly whisk in the grits, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.

      - Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally until the grits become thick and creamy.

        - Once cooked, stir in the heavy cream, shredded cheddar cheese, and butter. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Keep covered and set aside.

          Cook the Shrimp:

            - In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant but not burnt.

              - Add the shrimp to the skillet and season with smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and opaque, stirring gently to ensure even cooking.

                - Squeeze in the lemon juice and toss to combine, allowing the flavors to meld for an additional minute.

                  Assemble the Dish:

                    - Spoon the creamy grits onto plates, creating a small well in the center. Pile the garlic butter shrimp on top of the grits.

                      - Garnish with chopped parsley and green onions for a pop of color and freshness.

                        Serve:

                          - Serve immediately while hot and creamy. Enjoy your delicious Savory Garlic Butter Shrimp and Grits!
