Instructions

Prepare the Danish Dough:

    - In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.

      - Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to create a crumbly texture.

        - In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.

          - Knead gently on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, or until smooth. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

            Make the Strawberry Filling:

              - In a medium saucepan, combine sliced strawberries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Cook on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the strawberries soften and the mixture thickens.

                - Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature.

                  Roll Out the Dough:

                    - Once your dough has chilled, turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll it into a large rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick). Fold the dough into thirds like a letter, then wrap it in plastic and chill for another 30 minutes.

                      Shape the Danishes:

                        - Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

                          - On a floured surface, roll the chilled dough into a large rectangle again. Cut into squares (about 4x4 inches).

                            - For each square, make two diagonal cuts from each corner towards the center but do not cut all the way through. Place a spoonful of the cooled strawberry filling in the center.

                              - Fold the corners into the center, pinching to seal. Place on the prepared baking sheet.

                                Egg Wash:

                                  - In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the egg wash over the tops of the shaped danishes.

                                    Bake:

                                      - Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Remove and let cool on a wire rack.

                                        Prepare the Cream Cheese Glaze:

                                          - In a mixing bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined and creamy.

                                            Glaze and Serve:

                                              - Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the cooled danishes. Serve warm or at room temperature, and enjoy your delightful Strawberry Danishes!
